MRF is excited to report that we’ve received an unprecedented number of research proposals for our 2009 grants!  Thirty-five submissions from five countries represent some of the most interesting and groundbreaking work yet.  We want to be able to fund all the proposals that our medical advisory board determines are worthy, but we need your help.  Please donate online to help keep our researchers working hard to find a cure!

And, find more information on previous award recipients in the Research We Support section of our website.

MRF is pleased to announce that Dr. Marcela Romero-Reyes, DDS, PhD, has been awarded the Thomas E. Heftler Migraine Research Award.  Dr. Romero-Reyes’ study of craniofacial pain in mice could expand the understanding of pain regulation and help in the development of improved preventive migraine treatments.

She’ll conduct her research at NYU College of Dentistry in New York City, working in collaboration with Dr. Andrew Charles of the Headache Research and Treatment Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.

MRF established the Heftler Award, in partnership with the American Headache Society, to encourage new talent to enter the field of migraine research.  We will keep you posted as Dr. Romero-Reyes’ work progresses.

Got an extra set of tickets to a baseball game?  Show?  Symphony?  Donate them to MRF, and we’ll be happy to auction them off.  We’d need at least two weeks’ notice for an event.

Already selling on eBay?  You can automatically donate all or part of your sale to MRF.  Visit http://www.ebaygivingworks.com to learn more.

And you get the tax deduction!

MRF recently announced For Our Children, a pediatric/adolescent migraine research initiative.  Did you know that about 10% of school-age children suffer from migraines, and half of all sufferers have their first attack before the age of 12?   And research in this population in particular is severely under-funded!  We have additional plans to establish a fellowship and a special award for investigators to study migraine in kids.  Please help by donating to support For Our Children

MRF had 25 special charity registrations for the popular 42-mile 5 Boro Bike Tour throughout New York City.  The registrations zoomed out the door!  And a portion of the registration fee went to MRF. Many of our riders independently raised money as well.  One of our supporters gathered more that 40 sponsors and collected over $2,500 for MRF! We’re thrilled to have been a charity partner with Bike New York in this fun event, and we thank all of you who participated.

Speaking of riding, this kind of event is the perfect way to raise money.  Now that the weather is nice, there are lots of walks, runs, bike tours and triathlons around the country.  Many of them have charity partners, too.  We’d be happy to talk to you about how to use an event to raise money for MRF.  Just send an email to vounteers@migraineresearchfoundation.org.
