Migraine is a serious illness that affects more than 30 million Americans – including 10% of children and a disproportionate number of women – and ranks in the top 20 of the world's most disabling medical illnesses. Every 10 seconds, someone in the United States goes to the emergency room with a headache or migraine.

Migraine is also a public health issue with serious social and economic consequences: American employers lose more than $13 billion each year as a result of 113 million lost work days due to headache or migraine.

Despite these sobering statistics, research into the causes and treatment of migraine is severely underfunded. The Migraine Research Foundation was founded to address this critical gap in research.
